Knowing that the Leeta/Bashir stuff was coming up, I had to figure out a way to get them all to that point without contriving it or turning Julian into some superficial little playboy, because I would've wanted to smack him silly. I think the weight of everything that happened in the previous episodes was sufficient pressure to create the needed rupture. I'm glad it worked for you, and Decla is so fun to hate. Hee!
