Writer's Block: Take a (second) chance on me

[Error: unknown template qotd]
Yes. I can think of two specific instances when I did with two separate people, both friends. In both cases, I discovered that cutting them out of my life the first time was the right decision, and I should not have given them the opportunity to weasel their ways back into my good graces. While I wouldn't say this has gotten me to the point where I'd never give a second chance to anyone, I can say that if you've gotten to the point where you feel somebody is a destructive enough influence that you need them out of your life, chances are they haven't changed enough to deserve coming back again. A scalpel is kinder than a saw.

The Path of Most Resistance Part I

Author Notes: The story is an in-between story, taking place after Let He Who is Without Sin... and before Things Past. It's the beginning of some of the canon departures I've mentioned, minor so far, that will build over time throughout the rest of the series. Some of the Jem'Hadar dialogue comes from In Purgatory's Shadow. Chronology between Julian's part of the story and Garak's isn't exact. I wrote it for flow, not precision of the lining up of events while they're apart.

Summary: Julian does his best to adjust to the harsh conditions of Internment camp 371 and convince his bunk mates that he's more useful alive than dead while Garak tries to adjust to a return to life outside of confinement and fulfill the obligation he made to attend the Bajoran conference on the occupation.

Savannah Meme

I seem to have snagged this from all over my f-list.

1) Go to google and type in "You know you're from [your area] when..."
2) Cut and paste the list.
3) Bold or italicise items that apply to you

Yep. )

Turning the Screw

Author Notes: I wrote this fic for the awesome Meteorprime at her prompting that there just aren't enough Weyoun/Damar fics to go around. This is my first time writing for either character, so hopefully it's not too off from their voices/personalities. I'm still getting to know them.

Summary: It has long been said in Vorta lore that to understand the appetites of a race is to take the first step toward managing it. It's a principle that Weyoun always seeks to apply in his new assignments on a scale great and small. With Damar becoming problematic, the Vorta is forced to take matters more into hand than he usually would.

First Podfic!

I posted this to the Doctor_Tailor community, but I also wanted to have it linked here in my journal. This is a podfic recording of the first story in the Garak/Bashir series I've been writing, Slow Burn. Enjoy!

Writer's Block: Acquired taste

[Error: unknown template qotd]
OK, this is a fun question, because I adore food. Tastes, textures, scents, an artfully presented plate. I say I came by it culturally. If there's one thing that unites most Louisianians, regardless of their religion or politics, it's food.

I love rich, chocolate cake and...beer. The darker the beer the better. If it's a stout, slap a toe tag on me and send me to heaven.

I love coffee and...hard boiled eggs. Particularly the yolk part with the coffee. If you've never tried it, don't judge! ;-)

The Circle in the Spiral, Part I

Author Notes: The story indirectly references episodes from Nor the Battle to the Strong through Trials and Tribble-ations, picking up with Let He Who is Without Sin. I'm still in fast-forward mode, for although Nor the Battle... had a lot of good Doctor moments, it was written so tightly there really wasn't room to fiddle around in it. Besides, there's still the issue of Garak's incarceration. I don't want this to turn into a prison story in space, not with such cushy, boring digs.

Summary: Life continues to move at break-neck speed for Julian, while it seems to have come to a screeching halt for Garak. When Julian finally has time to travel with Leeta to Risa, a mysterious medical crisis strikes Garak, leaving the rest of the infirmary staff baffled and hoping for Julian's quick return. Garak travels to the brink of madness, discovering that there is more to his world than he ever imagined. Can Julian save him, or will he need that energy for himself when a burn conference doesn't go as expected?

End game!

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad (libs) world! The inspiration for the game came from the great little pads invented in 1953 that you can still buy today for some grammar insanity and sometime hilarity. Thanks to all of the victims willing participants. Without further ado (or adon't), here are your results! (Minus username journal links because no matter how many times I've tried to edit the damned things, they STILL AREN'T WORKING. I hate technology.)

Interspecies Romance: the Remedial Course, Part I

Author Notes: The story spans events from Apocalypse Rising through Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places. I'm trying to fast forward events a little because trying to write six months worth of time for Garak in a holding cell in great detail just would not work, and Doctor Bashir's part in all three of the episodes covered was fairly minimal.

Summary: As events unfold around him, from the Klingon war to the ground breaking discovery of a downed Jem'Hadar ship, Julian feels frustrated to find himself on the sidelines. His progress with Garak stymied, he begins to question the entire relationship and what the future holds for him. Meanwhile, Garak endures his incarceration to the best of his ability and finds some of his own relationships challenged by his actions in the Gamma Quadrant.

The Necessity of Terror, Part I

Author Notes: This story takes place during Broken Link. A bit of dialogue comes from the episode, and I also slightly altered the order of events toward the beginning for a better flow. If you haven't read the entire series, you may notice a few references to things that never happened in the show, specifically something to do with Doctor Mora and Garak's reaction to an Edosian orchid delivery. All of these references are to things that happened in Red Sky at Morning, the story I wrote that wasn't based on any episode and took place shortly after Vedek Bareil's death. Knowledge of that story won't impact understanding of this one except in regard to the background of those references.

Summary: Odo is struck with a mysterious malady that only a visit to his own people has the possibility to cure. Garak seizes the opportunity to find the answer to a question that has been plaguing him for far too long, an answer that may forever alter the dynamic between him and Julian. The fate of the entire Alpha Quadrant hangs in the balance.
